Top 3 Movies of 2022

Discussing year’s top films

Jared Carrillo, Staff Reporter

Last year’s variety of films has been nothing short of…overwhelming. From low-budget productions to box office smashing blockbusters, 2022 delivered films that’ll go down as classics. With all of these fantastic movies, it’s almost impossible to pick only three that stood out the most…but I did my best.

  1. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery – Rian Johnson has done it again. After delivering what is arguably one of the greatest mysteries of the century, it was so no surprise that the sequel knocked it out of the park. A modern installment of the soon-to-be trilogy was fresh, hysterical and consistent to the first. From the satire, stacked cast and fantastic production design, this film stands out the most.

  2. Avatar: The Way of Water – After 13 years of a visual masterpiece, a sequel was long overdue. James Cameron brings us back to this beautiful world with the visual effects making every Marvel or DC movie look like a low-budget disaster. The heart in this film is present and it successfully sets up the rest of this franchise.
  3. Elvis – Baz Luhrmann is a hit or miss director, but he knocks it out of the park with his biopic about the king. Austin Butler enters the role of Elvis perfectly, recently snagging a Golden Globe for his performance. From the costume and production design to the cinematography, this film perfectly executes the period piece aspect. A perfect homage Elvis Presley himself.
