Three weeks after the Parkland shooting President Trump has now passed the bill regarding firearms and school safety in Florida. The new bill included that the minimum age to buy a firearm would raise from 18 to 21. The bill will also impose a three day waiting period after purchase. This waiting period means that you have to wait at least 3 days or 72 hours before using the firearm. This bill also will provide $400 million for school police officers and metal health counselors, and allow certain school personnel to be armed. Democrats pushed for a ban on assault rifles like the one used by the gunman in the Parkland shooting, however, this push was unsuccessful. The bill passed 67-50 in the State House and 20-18 in the Senate. Governor Rick Scott has opposed arming teachers, and has not indicated whether he will sign the bill or not.
