Severe Thunderstorm Threat Stretches From the Gulf Coast to New England Today as SPC Flags Damaging Winds, Tornado Potential and Large Hail Across Multiple States on June 18 2026

The Storm Prediction Center has issued its severe weather outlook for Thursday June 18, 2026 and the threat today spans an enormous portion of the eastern United States, from the Gulf Coast all the way up through New England. While yesterday’s catastrophic outbreak across Illinois and Indiana has moved on, today brings a fresh round of severe weather concerns across a completely different set of states.

What the SPC Is Saying for Today

According to the official outlook updated at 8:01 AM CDT on June 18, here is the breakdown of what is expected across the country today:

  • Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are expected from Kentucky and the central Appalachians to the Mid-Atlantic, with primarily damaging wind gusts and marginal hail as the main threats
  • Scattered severe storms are possible from upstate New York into New England, with damaging wind gusts and tornado potential
  • A few tornadoes may also occur over parts of the middle Gulf Coast states
  • Scattered storms may produce gusty winds or marginal hail from Oklahoma into western North Texas
