Where the Tornado Is Right Now

The confirmed damaging tornado is currently south of the Town of Oregon, Wisconsin and is tracking directly toward:

  • Brooklyn, Wisconsin
  • Union, Wisconsin
  • Evansville, Wisconsin

If you are in any of these communities, take shelter immediately. Do not wait.

Why This Tornado Is Especially Dangerous

This tornado carries two critical details that make it particularly deadly:

It is rain-wrapped. The tornado is deeply embedded in a squall line and is completely surrounded by heavy rain. This means you cannot see it coming. A rain-wrapped tornado gives zero visual warning and can be on top of you before you even know it exists. This is one of the most dangerous types of tornadoes precisely because it is invisible to the naked eye.

It is the same storm that already caused destruction today. This is the exact same storm system that earlier impacted Harpers Ferry and the Iowa and Wisconsin border with a PDS (Particularly Dangerous Situation) tornado earlier today. A PDS designation is the highest level tornado warning the National Weather Service issues and is reserved only for situations where violent and extremely destructive tornadoes are expected or occurring.

What the Radar Is Showing

Dual radar imagery from KMKX at 8:17 PM shows two panels side by side:

The correlation coefficient panel on the left shows a distinct debris signature south of Town of Oregon, confirming a tornado is actively on the ground and lofting debris into the air. A debris ball on radar is one of the most definitive confirmations that a tornado is producing damage at ground level.

The reflectivity panel on the right shows the storm’s intense structure with the tornado deeply embedded within heavy precipitation, confirming the rain-wrapped nature of this extremely dangerous storm.

Communities That Must Take Shelter Right Now

Based on the storm’s current track the following communities are in immediate danger:

  • Town of Oregon, Wisconsin
  • Brooklyn, Wisconsin

  • Evansville, Wisconsin

This Is a Life-Threatening Emergency

If you are in southern Wisconsin right now, this is not a drill. A confirmed damaging tornado is on the ground and it cannot be seen due to heavy rain wrapping around it. You have no time to hesitate.

Take these actions right now:

  • Get to the lowest floor of a sturdy building immediately
  • Go to an interior room with no windows, a bathroom or closet
  • Do not go outside under any circumstances
  • Do not try to drive away from a rain-wrapped tornado you cannot see
  • If you are in a mobile home or vehicle, get out immediately and find a sturdy structure
  • Keep your weather radio or phone alerts on
  • Monitor live updates at NOAA Storm Prediction Center

This tornado has already proven it is capable of violent destruction today. Take this warning with the highest level of seriousness.
