During Catholic Schools Week, programs such as ROTC, Band, and Cheer visit different local Catholic middle schools in order to show off and recruit rising freshmen.
ROTC sends their Color Guard team.
“We present our flags, we show our rifles, and then we give a little speech about the unit and what we do” Kinley Bottenfield said.
It is an opportunity for the unit to display their skills with a walk through of what they do at a normal ceremony, where they present the Colors during the National Anthem or Pledge of Allegiance.
In the recruitment talk, some key points they talk about are how “ROTC isn’t necessarily just military, and that you can go into this club, not wanting to go into the military” Bottenfield said.
Bottenfield also touched on other things they talk about, “we talk about all our championships we’ve gone to,” Bottenfield said, “We also talk about the fun things like Cadet Ball and our spring trip because it really gets the kids motivate.”
These visits are beneficial to the different clubs in many different ways, but for ROTC, its an opportunity to show its true colors.
“It’s beneficial because not a lot of people know the real ROTC.” Bottenfield said, “It’s really good to show them what ROTC can be and is and what it can do for you.”
The schools they are visiting this week include:
Monday: San Jose, St. Jospeh, and San Juan del Rio
Tuesday: St. Paul Riverside, Guardian, and Holy Spirit
Thursday: Palmer, St. Paul Beach, and Holy Family
