The second semester is usually characterized to feel much longer than the first semester for many high school students, which can result in a lack of motivation. The combination of the less time off and preparation for the upcoming year can lead to a stressful second semester for students, but here are some tips to increase morale during these next few months.
Start a new hobby
“I like being a part of a community at Kenny and joining track makes me feel more involved in my community,” Junior Olivia Jansen says. She began running for the Bishop Kenny Track and Field Team during her sophomore year. The Track and Field Team welcomes all athletes back to train on the first mandatory day of practice this year, January twentieth. Some events to try are: short distance sprinting, long distance running, javelin, long jump, and many relays.
Make time for Jesus
“Quest always gives me new motivation to keep improving my faith and it always teaches me more about the Church,” Sophomore Charles Broach says. Quest is a spiritual retreat for freshmen and sophomores that takes place once in the fall and one in the spring. RISE is also a spiritual retreat, but is only available to juniors and seniors. Attending these retreats can improve the second semester, especially because it is something to look forward to.
Hang out with friends
The second semester can get busy, but don’t forget to make time for friends. Going to get a snack after school together or watching a movie is an easy way to stay up to date with them. Not only that, but they can also be someone to lean on during difficult times.
Take advantage of the resources that Kenny provides
There are many resources that Kenny has available to help, so take advantage of them. Whether it is attending morning mass in the chapel or going to after school math lab, there are plenty of opportunities to improve the second semester. So why wait? Try them out now!
