The match began at a season-record low of forty eight degrees on the St. John’s River. The team prepares for these cold weathered games in many ways, including wearing gloves and standing close to heaters during the game.
“We prepare for these types of cold games by gathering in the locker room preparing ourselves mentally and physically to come out and play strong especially since we know we’re playing in the cold,” Junior Emilio Calderon says. He has been a midfielder for the varsity soccer team since his freshman year, which has supplied him with experience to prepare for these games as an upperclassman.
Junior and left back AJ Diana scored the only goal for the team in the second half of the game. The Crusaders won the match versus Fletcher, finishing with a 1-0 score.
The team expects to see even lower temperatures as the winter season approaches quickly. Tickets to future games can be bought online on GoFan.
