Since 1995, the Jacksonville Jaguars have represented Duval county as an NFL team. The Jaguars are yet to win a Super Bowl, despite the several playoff appearances. Jaguar fans are looking to see a Super Bowl win in the future.
Jaguar fans have seen many eras of quarterbacks, including Blake Bortles, Gardener Minshew and current quarterback, Trevor Lawrence. Each of these quarterbacks have some saying that goes along with their time on the Jaguars. One of the most widely spread sayings is, “Minshew Magic.” This saying was most popular when previous Jaguar quarterback, Gardener Minshew, led the Jaguars to several wins. Dewey Wingard is a teammate of the current quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, and after a win against the Tennessee Titans, Dewey Wingard said a phrase that would take Duval by storm.
“It was always the Jags,” is the most notable quote from Wingard. It especially trended when the Jaguars were on a winning streak. This quote has since been printed on merchandise, towels and even walls. It has also taken over social media.
Wingard’s current most popular teammate is Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence is expected to lead the Jaguars as the quarterback. He makes plays, talks at press conferences, and is famous for his impact on the team. He is known to be very stable and not make comments to the media solely based on his emotions. He hasn’t spoken much about his performances this season. Although he has been steadily improving his statistics in the previous couple seasons, he has not made the impact that fans want to see for him this season quite yet.
“I used to think he was the guy, but I don’t anymore after that terrible performance against the Bills,” Jaguar fan and Junior Cooper Goodwin said. Lawrence threw an interception during Monday night football against the Buffalo Bills. Goodwin has been attending Jaguar games for almost his whole life and is a dedicated fan of twelve years. Goodwin is one of the many fans that is disappointed, but hopes to see Lawrence grow in his football journey.
“He hasn’t played up to his full potential,” Goodwin said. Lawrence’s statistics have been fluctuating up and down, but his yards thrown were much lower in the game versus the Buffalo Bills. He only threw one hundred and seventy eight yards, which is significantly lower than the two hundred twenty yards that he threw in the previous game against the Cleveland Browns.
One reason that Lawrence may be underperforming is because he is currently growing his own family. As announced in July 2024, Lawrence and his wife are expecting a daughter. He has one toddler son already and his daughter will be born later this year.
While some Jaguar fans are upset with his performance now, the season is still in the early stages with plenty of opportunities for Lawrence to improve.
