Duval County Public Schools is putting in place a cell phone ban for this school year that requires students to place cell phones away and out of sight unless given permission by faculty. While this is not a completely new regulation, there are many new changes happening that will affect all students and teachers in the classroom environment.
This county wide cellphone ban is taking place in the 2024-2025 school year.
According to the Duval County Student Code of Conduct, students are required to place cellphones out-of-sight in a book bag or purse during class hours.
In previous years schools have had to follow a similar rule that has now been revised. Instead of students only having to have their phones away during class, they are now required to be off their person and turned off during class.
This new rule is not only being applied for cell phones, but also smart watches and earbuds. Students are no longer allowed any type of personal communication devices while in the classroom environment.
If a student fails to comply with this, their cell phone will be confiscated and the student is unable to retrieve the cellphone themselves. Only a parent or guardian will be authorized to retrieve the cell phone after it has been confiscated.
