This year, there is an unexpected increase in the number of junior students joining the Bishop Kenny swim team. The pool is filled with new potential this year as 5 juniors on top of the other ones have recently joined the team. This surge represents a notable rise when contrasted with prior years, during which the team observed a more equal spread of students across various grades.
Laurel Valley, 5 year Kenny swim coach, accredits the rise in juniors “to finding a way to be active while putting in hard work.” The team has won states the past three years and wants to win again this year with the gain of new people.
Some of the swimmers have been swimming competitively for years, while others are just starting out in the sport this year. This variety promotes an atmosphere for learning with plenty of room to grow, where veteran swimmers can guide the fresh recruits.
One of the seasoned junior students is Addison Evans, She’s been on the team since freshman year. “I am very excited for all the new people on the team and for it to grow,” said Addison.
As the swim team advances through the season, they anticipate utilizing the increase in junior talent to reach higher goals. Having a solid beginning and a lot of new potential, they’re ready to take on the competition season!
