As of Jan. 29, northeast Florida residents are required to use a 10-digit dial code.
New cell phones, landlines and other technology devices will start using the new 324 area code on Feb. 26.
Residents will need to remember to dial an area code while calling people in their local area.
While the beloved 904 area code is dear to many, a new area code is necessary due to Jacksonville’s rapid growth.
Florida Public Service Commission Chairman Andrew Fay told Florida daily that the additional area code will “accommodate the demand for new numbers” in northeast Florida.
