The five seniors of the varsity beach volleyball team celebrated a 5-0 win and senior night on April 9.

Julie Meehan, Caroline Snyder, Lily Brady, Ashley Sullo and Ava Winkler have been teammates through high school beach and indoor volleyball season. The five seniors all played on lines with a partner while they battled in their match against Creekside.

Although senior night is a time to celebrate the seniors, the team still had a match to play. The sand volleyball courts are located close to the river, which can bring a challenge: wind. The game was particularly windy, but the Crusaders train for this challenge in practice daily.

At the beginning of every match, a pair gets to choose whether they want to pick the side or serve first. If a pair does not understand the mechanics of serving in wind or picking an advantageous side, then they can self sabotage their self and their partner. This can come as a disadvantage for inexperienced players in the wind because every seven points, the pairs switch sides.

The team is currently ranked first in Florida Class 2A, according to Maxpreps.com. With a 13-1-0 record, the team will continue to play with hopes of playing in the state tournament.
