Poppi, known for its health benefits and its bright vibrant cans, has just recently been bought out by PepsiCo.
According to PepsiCo, “it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Poppi, a fast-growing prebiotic soda brand, for $1.95 billion, including $300 million of anticipated cash tax benefits for a net purchase price of $1.65 billion.”
This purchase has its consumers wondering what will happen to the brand from this point; will it become more widely available, will the ingredients change?
Poppi started out as an experiment with a healthier soda version, and it’s now the brand many know and love today.
The founder, Allison Ellsworth, and her husband went on Shark Tank together and made a deal with Rohan Oza. They rebranded the soda and the name Poppi was born.
The soda has 5g of sugar, no chemical ingredients, as well as prebiotics.
Consumers have expressed concern about this buy with the ingredients being changed and the integrity of the drink being changed. Ellsworth has stood out against these claims.
“We can’t wait to begin this next chapter with PepsiCo to bring our soda to more people — and I know they will honor what makes Poppi so special while supporting our next phase of growth and innovation,” she said.
For now, consumers can hope and believe that Pepsi will honor this brand and all it stands for.
