The widespread phenomenon of college basketballs’, March Madness, has officially kicked off for the 2025 tournament. Many teams dream of competing in such a popular and competitive tournament, but the fans may be even more excited.

Every year millions of brackets are created by fans, including students around Bishop Kenny. Though the odds of picking a perfect bracket are near impossible, students still create them in hopes of their bracket winning big.

The chances of picking a perfect bracket are 1 in 120 billion, according to the NCAA. Someone is more likely to win the lottery than pick a perfect bracket. The madness begins in the very first round.

Starting in the first round this year, there were already many upsets. For example, Clemson (5 seed) was defeated by McNeese (12 seed). Many brackets were imperfect following the first round of play. Therefore, leaving students with failing brackets upset.

“I am already losing big because some of the teams I selected have already lost,” Senior Julie Meehan says following the first round. Meehan chose Duke to win the whole tournament, so she hopes they continue winning. Duke is the first seed in the East.

For the 2025 tournament, zero perfect brackets remain. Although there will not be a perfect bracket, the games will continue to run. The championship game will be held on April 7, 2025.
