What’s going on with plane crashes in 2025?

According to USA.today, there have been ninety four accidents this year already. With sixty three accidents in January alone, the panic begins and many questions arise. Why are planes suddenly crashing? Should there be nerves before a flight?

Junior Samantha Grippi has been flying commercially since she was born, so she isn’t nervous for her flights in 2025. “I’ve flown for seventeen years and everything has been fine, so I trust the airline with my life in their hands,” says Grippi.

On the other hand, some students are worried about flying commercially due to the recent crashes. “The airlines, the pilots, I don’t trust anyone if they have crashed ninety four times,” Junior Hamilton Stewart says. He’s flown as far as China, yet still lacks trust in the current aviation industry.

One of the most notable aviation accidents this year is the collision of an American Airlines Plane and a US Army Helicopter. The incident resulted in sixty seven fatalities. This crash received national recognition and was broadcasted shortly after it occurred, even being spoken about by President Donald Trump.

While sixty three plane crashes in January 2025 seems like a significant number, it is still less than the eighty plane crashes that were recorded in January 2024. Ten of the accidents in January 2025 were fatal. This is still an issue considering aviation accidents should not occur, but they do.

Statistically, this year has not been the worst for aviation accidents. While nerves are natural, combat these fears by looking at the statistics. Flying commercially is as safe as ever.
