Winners of 38th annual MTV VMAs

The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are an annual music geek favorite and the 38th music ceremony left everyone speechless. It was a night many will not forget with many top artists nominated, including Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Adele, Ed Sheeran and others.

After being one of the biggest K-pop bands since 2013, BTS shocked the world by announcing they were taking a break to focus more on their solo careers for the time being. Now four months after that announcement, the band won Group of the Year which left fans to wonder what’s next for the group.

Rising to fame back in 2016, the now 20-year-old singer Billie Eilish has won many awards and this weekend has won yet another. In 2021, the singer released the song “Happier Than Ever” which gained much attention. Now in 2022, a little over a year later, the song won the award Song of the Year at this year’s ceremony.

Harry Styles has been in the music industry since 2010 when he was in One Direction. After the 2015 breakup of the band, he released two albums in the span of four years then went silent. Then in the early months of 2022, he announced that not only was he releasing a new song, but a new album as well. The song, “As It Was”, won Best Pop Song and Best Cinematography while the album, Harry’s House, won Album of the Year. Styles was unable to attend the ceremony due to having a show that night but made sure to send a video to all his fans thanking them.

Taylor Swift has broken records throughout her whole career and this weekend she broke yet another. Her music video for the song “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version)” won Best Longform Video, Best Direction and Video of the Year. With her winning her third Video of the Year award, she set the record for the most VMAs for that category. To end her acceptance speech, she announced she is planning to release a new album, which she later confirmed would be called Midnights.

Since 1984 when it premiered in New York, the VMAs have grown and welcomed new artists from all over the world. It showcases the talent of many music artists all in one place, in one night. This one night captures the attention of hundreds all over the world, celebrating them in the moment and with awards.
