This previous Sunday night gave us what could be considered the best week one college football game this season. The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame traveled to Tallahassee to take on the Seminoles of Florida State. Last season the Seminoles went 2-6 in a COVID-shortened season. The Irish joined the ACC for conference only play and went a perfect 9-0 including a 42-26 win over the Noles and made a College Football Playoff appearance.

Florida State had returning quarterback Jordan Travis lead the Noles against the Irish but tossed three interceptions in the game. Travis was eventually benched in favor of UCF transfer Mackenzie Milton who forced the game into overtime. On defense for the Noles, Georgia transfer defensive end Jermaine Johnson had 8 tackles and 1.5 sacks. For the Irish, Wisconsin transfer Quarterback Jack Coan threw 4 touchdown passes and found Sophomore Tight End Michael Mayer 9 times for 120 yards.

On defense All-American Safety Kyle Hamilton had 2 interceptions for the Irish. The game was close until the third when Notre Dame took a 18-point lead. The Noles fought hard and forced overtime before they missed a kick in overtime. The Irish took advantage and hit a field goal to win the game 41-38.
