Dana White, President of the UFC, announced on an Instagram Live that Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez will officially headline the main event title match for the featherweight division in UFC 290 in Boston.

After a controversial loss to Islam Mackachev in an attempt to become a double division champion, Volkanovski returns to the octagon to protect his title against the interim champion, Yair Rodriguez, making this his fourth title defense.

Yair is coming off of his win for the interim title against Josh Emmett, who will be fighting in Jacksonville on June 24. While Volkanovski is one of the greatest fighters in this sport, an opponent like Yair is not to be underestimated.

Yair has a height advantage, 5’11 compared to Volkanovski at 5’6. However, they are about the same in reach.

Fighting under Volkanovski and Rodriguez, Brendan Moreno will be headlining the co-main event and will also be defending his title against Alexandre Pantoja. UFC 290 will be during international fight week on July 8 in Boston, and is almost guaranteed to be a great show.
